Itacimirim means "little Ant" in Indian dialect and like almost all districts in the "Coconuts Coast" is mainly inhabited by native fishermen, who nowadays share the local natural beauties with holidaymakers and tourists from all over the world.

Itacimirim became internationally famous when Amir Klink, a Brazilian notorious navigator, dropped anchor there after crossing the Atlantic Ocean rowing alone in a little boat in 1984.

From Itacimirim you can easily reach a lot of regional attractions like the famous neighbour Praia do Forte (5km) with his well-known sea turtle project TAMAR, the Arembepe beach (25km) where the first hippie community of Brazil was founded in the sixties with famous visitors like Janis Joplin and Mick Jagger.
Some of the most charming beaches of the North Bahia are situated in this little paradise.

The Porto beach is where the fishermen drop anchor theirs boats. Esperera beach has some natural pools, great for snorkelling. The Peru beach is well known for  it's surfing. A little north the Praia das Ondas beach where the Pojuca river flows in the ocean and the water changes it colour, becoming reddish. This is a perfect place for fishing or to eat seafood at the beach restaurants.

At the borders of the Pojuca river you find mangroves and Mata Atlantica jungle and you can visit th Sapiranga reserve.
